Oaxaca Mezcal Cooking Classes
Interested in a second day of mezcal during your visit to Oaxaca? We offer half day cooking classes, roughly 9 am to 3 pm, led by an internationally renowned bilingual Oaxacan chef who has been offering such classes for over two decades. Each of the five dishes is prepared with a different varietal of the agave distillate.
For your group of 4 - 12 people, your first day will be a traditional mezcal educational excursion as described earlier on this website, during which in addition to purchasing your chosen mezcal species to take home with you (if you are so inclined), we will buy mezcal which you will use on a subsequent day, the cooking class.
On the morning of your mezcal cooking class, you will first accompany the chef to a local traditional indigenous market to buy ingredients for the class, typically a meat and/or seafood protein (unless your group is vegetarian or vegan), cheese such as the uniquely Oaxacan string cheese (quesillo), fruit, vegetables, and whatever else has been planned for the class. And if your group includes chocoholics, perhaps ingredients for making chocolate by hand, will be acquired.
Each member of your group will participate in preparing most if not each one of the dishes. And of course you will be involved in designing the menu via online communication with the chef.
